Class Description
This class is designed for ages 4 to 14 who are interested in learning the fundamentals of Ballet Folklorico de Mexico, a traditional Mexican dance style. Through this class, students will learn the basic steps and techniques of Ballet Folklorico and the cultural history behind the dance style. The class includes stretching and exercises that prepare the body for dancing. Students will then learn basic Ballet Folklorico steps, such as the "zapateado" footwork and "skirt work" commonly seen in this dance style. The teacher will also introduce various rhythms and musical genres in Ballet Folklorico. Throughout the class, the teacher will incorporate traditional costumes and props such as hats, ribbons, and colorful skirts to help students connect with the cultural aspect of the dance. Students will learn to work together in small groups to perform simple choreography and develop their coordination, rhythm, and musicality.
